Isla Mucura
Isla Mucura: An Island Paradise Awaits You
Colombia has its fair share of paradisiacal islands, but what makes Isla Mucura unique is its proximity to Cartagena and the fact that few people know about it. You can easily stroll the streets of the Walled City one day (relevant link here), and the find yourself on an idyllic stretch of beach the next. That's the beauty of Isla Mucura.
A Not-to-Miss Day Trip from Your Cartagena Hotel or Vacation Rental
Isla Mucura can only be accessed by boat. The ride from Cartagena will take approximately two hours each way, but it's well worth it. The warm, white sand and crystal-clear waters are so picture-perfect, you'll keep asking yourself if they're real.
If you're staying in Cartagena, the best option is to join a tour group and let the tour company arrange your transportation. On the way to Isla Mucura, you'll pass the Islas del Rosario as well as the world's most densely populated island, Santa Cruz de Isolte.
If you'd like to spend more time on Isla Mucura, the Hotel Punta Faro offers the only accommodations on the island. The upscale resort has a shuttle boat that runs between Cartagena and its dock once a day. Day-trippers can pay to use the hotel's facilities, which are about a 15-minute walk from the main beach.
